Did I say something negative?

Did I say something negative about OpenVMS in the last post? Is it possible???

I am a rather big fan of OpenVMS, considering it to be one of the most bulletproof operating systems around. Not to put it bluntly, but I consider it the best overall operating system on the planet.

So what's up?

Recently at work, we have uncovered a lot of bugs in the OS. At the time of writing, I have at least five serious problems escalated to Engineering. While there are solutions to two of those problems via unoffical, unreleased, unsupported, beta patches, there are no official kits yet. And we won't beta test for HP. We have a business to run.

What are we doing to uncover these problems? Are we running some wizz-bang in-house developed real time system containing 50,000 lines of inner mode code? Not likely. We are just running user mode code and a large data warehouse application.

So what's going on in Engineering? I know lots of the Andy Goldsteins and Clair Grants are working on the IPF port. Is it possible that that brain drain has left a hole that is letting these little problems slip through?

For the sake of OpenVMS's reputation at my company, I hope not.
