Unified monitoring system:   It's about time that we standardised on a centralised monitoring tool. Looks like we are going NimSoft. (107 words, 0 comments, 0 pings)

Security standardisation:   Resolving key/value mismatches between clusters for rightslist identifiers is a really good idea. (162 words, 0 comments, 0 pings)

Disaster recovery test mark II:   A second disaster recovery test was performed over the weekend. While we still have some niggling little problems (accessing the EVA's console from the test network, for example), everything worked flawlessly. I now have the recovery time down to approximately 40 minutes (which is a better deal that something like 20 hours when we did this with tape restores). (59 words, 0 comments, 0 pings)

Disaster recovery test:   Yesterday we successfully tested part of our DR plan. This is the bit that restores the major ERP system to functionality. Without this system we're dead in the water. (97 words, 0 comments, 0 pings)

Control-M:   We use BMC's Control-M scheduling product here to control our overnight processing. To this end, I've just completed a training course designed to teach the basics (and some more advanced techniques) of using this complex piece of software. (79 words, 0 comments, 0 pings)

Dangerous patches:   If you're running Alpha 8.3 OpenVMS, and you wish to apply the latest upgrade patch (as you eventually should) you better have the latest SYS patch on as well. If you don't you'll end up with an error applying the update. It seems that Engineering has lost it. Patch kits have come to us in the past with checks to ensure that prerequisite patches are applied. But not this one. The really worrying thing is that this was pointed out to Engineering back with the V1100 patch and they still haven't fixed it for V1300. (122 words, 0 comments, 0 pings)
