Prioritizing cluster comms:   Hoff's blog often gives me a push to post something on here. Recently, he was talking about SCACP usage, and I thought "Gee, I have a nice little DCL command procedure that does circuit prioritization using that. I should post it". So, here it is. Patch rates for OpenVMS:   One of the advantages of OpenVMS touted by some of its supporters (and don't get me wrong, I'm certainly a supporter) is its relatively low patch release numbers. As I collect patches for publication in the Patch Syndication feeds, I thought I'd verify just how true this claim is... (222 words, 8 comments, 0 pings)

MRTG setup:   After upgrading my linux box the other day, I thought I might run up MRTG on it. This is a rather fun exercise in systems admin as I had to install and configure a bunch of packages on the box, including MRTG (obviously), lm-sensors, snmp, snmpd, apache, etc, etc. I even fixed a Perl script and had a great time playing with snmpwalk and OIDs. While I'd like to publish this info on this site, it's obviously generated on the computers at home. So we shall serve it up from there for the time being. Here you will find the page linking to the MRTG info. When I get some more time, I shall add some navigation... (119 words, 0 comments, 0 pings)

Linux upgrade:   The other day, I noticed that I was getting some "strange" results from a BOINC project. Rather than immediately declaring the project had a bug, I thought it might be wise to upgrade my installation of Ubuntu to something a little more recent than the "Hoary Hedgehog" release, which was around the 2005 timeframe. So I embarked on the apt-get install train... I upgraded from "Hoary Hedgehog" to "Breezy Badger" to "Dapper Drake" to "Edgy Eft" (love the distribution names) and after only minor problems I am finally up-to-date.
