Web services

Scott Andrew is doing some really, really cool stuff with the mod_pubsub system for Apache.

I wish my host used Apache (or better yet, I could host my site on the AlphaServer I have sitting here just waiting for some good high speed connectivity). I can think of lots of uses for mod_pubsub.

Facilities monitoring, CPU and memory utilization monitoring, load averages, even storage utilization from moment to moment...

Great suggestions, James. I've included a link to this post from the mod-pubsub.org blog: http://www.mod-pubsub.org/blog/archives/176_More_Great_Uses_For_Modpubsub.html

Hey James, are you in Silicon Valley? If so, we invite you to our monthly mod-pubsub developer's dinner. Contact me or Adam for details.

Oh, and you don't have to use Apache for a lot of non-webby things. The actual server runs in Python.

Thanks for the kind invitation, Troutgirl. Unfortunately, I'm in Sacramento, and Silicon Valley is a little far for me on the bicycle. However, if I'm ever in the neighbourhood, I'll keep it in mind.
