Mozilla for OpenVMS

A number of years ago, the web browser that shipped with OpenVMS was Mosaic. Subsequently, it was replaced with Netscape. People put up with old versions of Netscape for far too long. But Engineering has corrected that problem by releasing ports of Mozilla for OpenVMS.

The supported version, Compaq Secure Web Browser, is based on Mozilla 1.0. But the guys in Engineering have not been idle, and there is a port of Mozilla 1.3 and even a port of 1.4a available for download.

I have installed (strictly using the defaults) Mozilla as well as Compaq Secure Web Browser, but neither of them brings up a browser when invoked.

There we absolutely no errors during the install, and when Mozilla is invoked, the system thinks for about 1 minute and then returns to the command prompt.

Using OpenVMS 7.3 and I have all privs. Are there other components I need to install that aren't listed on the HP site?

Any ideas?

Thanks

RD

I would suggest that you start by looking at the hardware and software prerequisites at http://h71000.www7.hp.com/openvms/products/ips/cswb/cswb_relnotes.html#prereq

If this doesn't help you and you have a support contract, you could log a call with HP against CSWB, as it's a fully supported product.

I am trying to use perl on our VMS system. We are running Mozilla 1.3 and have perl set up. When I load a perl file into the browser (ie. thispage.pl) the browser does not know what to do with the file. If I add the pl extension to the mime types, the browser tries to save the pl file to disk rather than open it in the browser. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Gary, I'd suggest that the problem you are having is much more likely to be a configuration issue with your web server than an problem with your web client (i.e. browser).

Assuming you're using Apache, check out this page:

http://perl.apache.org/docs/1.0/guide/config.html
